The Freeport Historical Society and Museum is a privately owned 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. It is incorporated by the State of New York and chartered by the Education Department as a historical society, the mission of which is the preservation and display of items relevant to the history of Freeport, New York. All expenses are supported by grants, donations and members’ dues. The Village of Freeport does not own the museum or provide assistance for the upkeep and maintenance of its collections. The Society strictly relies on the generosity of its volunteers and members to provide the technical resources necessary to maintain and preserve the digital and physical collections.
